Premature mortalities in 53 urban agglomerations of India

Impact of air pollution on the lives of people residing in India has been a major concern since many decades. My research focuses on the premature mortalities in the urban agglomerations (cities with population of 1 million or more) in India. According to recent research performed a 0.54 million premature mortalities have been observed in 2010 in these urban agglomerations. And the major contribution of individual components of PM2.5 reflected that nitrate had the maximum contribution followed by sulfate, ammonium, OC and BC respectively.

Implementation of strict rules to curb the impact of individual components on the increasing concentrations of PM2.5 in India could help in improving the lives of people in India. Hence, major actions like BS-VI to control vehicular emissions,

in 2015 norms to control emissions from power plants (which are yet to be implemented) and strict emissions standards for various industries would lead to a considerable reduction in the concentration of PM2.5 in India.
